Home Library: Quarantine + Trauma Repair Edition

WE HAVE SO MUCH TIME at home these days, times have changed into a new trajectory, Although I typically love books more as reference than sitting down to read cover-to-cover, a found a few gems that have been tried and true for self-study in the areas of breath work, meditation, spirituality and herbs. For April, I wanted to connect you with some of my favorite reads that work great as study guides to dig a little deeper as well as hold peace within.

  • How To Breathe by Ashley Neese: A beautiful little hardcover that brings you simple practices for any situation. Her style and approach is very calming and soothes the nervous system in a delightful and welcomed way. This easy-to-use guide is one that I reference often when preparing for workshops and private sessions with clients.

  • A Thousand Mornings by Mary Oliver: A collection of poems by an amazing poet. Oliver’s approach is based in connection to nature and the art of observation. A beautiful book to prompt your own writing or to take a moment to enjoy her grounded and wise words. This iconic writer passed into the next world in the last year yet her words are timeless. I love honoring her view of the world by reading her work.

  • Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer: A beautiful book of essay style writing on indigenous wisdom, scientific knowledge and the teaching of plants. Another beautiful selection to connect ones experience in the world to the beauty and reality that is mother nature.

  • Passionate Mystic: Saint Theresa of Avila - by Mirabai Starr: A deep little book on contemplative practice. The author translated many texts on spirituality, living wisdom and the experience of connection to creator. A book that speaks to the heart of any reader who asks the deeper questions on the experience of connection with the Divine. I also suggest learning more about this author, her path in this life is quite inspirational while processing deep heartbreak.

  • Making Space: Creating a Home Meditation Practice by Thich Nhat Hanh: A lovely how-to on mindfulness by way of the Buddhist traditions on developing one’s home space and routines into supporting deeper a meditation practice guided by self.

As you may have picked up, each one of these authors truly has a unique and genuine story to tell and gifts to share with the world from their own deep wisdom. As each of us have a story and path. I truly hope you enjoy these gems as much as I do. Take care of each other, as always, I’m available for one-on-one conversations about self-care, spirituality, meditation and recommended readings or protocols at home. Nestle into a cozy corner, sip some tea and crack open any book that calls to you this afternoon. You deserve the time to expand and explore from the care of your home. You are held.
